What is Professional Teeth Whitening?
As we age, our teeth naturally darken as they become stained and discoloured, both inside the tooth and on the surface.
Many additional factors can also contribute to the discolouration of your teeth. The foods we eat and beverages we drink can make a lasting impression on our teeth, possibly causing surface stains.
Our professional teeth whitening treatment may help you achieve the results you're looking for.
Whiten Your Smile Your Way
Are you ready to achieve a whiter, brighter smile? Then call Dr. Naji Louis Family Dentistry. We’ll assess your teeth and help you get the treatment you need to reach your smile goals.
What are the Benefits of Teeth Whitening?
Your smile is one of the first things that people notice about you. Having a brighter smile can boost your confidence and self-esteem. Compared to other dental procedures, teeth whitening is relatively quick and non-invasive. A newly whitened smile can inspire a renewed commitment to oral hygiene, which can help maintain the results of your teeth whitening treatment. By focusing on your oral hygiene habits, you may find yourself brushing and flossing more often, clearing away bacteria which can positively impact your oral health.
How Teeth Whitening Works
Your dentist will use a non-toxic, non-allergenic peroxide-based gel to whiten your teeth. This gel breaks down stains caused by food, drinks or tobacco use, resulting in a whiter, brighter-looking smile.

The Teeth Whitening Process
Here is what you can expect from the teeth whitening process in just three steps:
1. Creation of Custom Trays
To begin, you will visit us for an appointment where we will take impressions of your mouth to create custom whitening trays.
2. Take Home & Use the Kit
Once your whitening trays are complete, you will pick them up from our office. We will also provide you with detailed instructions to use our take-home bleaching kits. Then, you can go home and use the kit as directed.
3. Show Off Your Smile
You may find that your teeth are noticeably whiter after treatment. We hope that you will feel confident showing off your brighter, whiter smile.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
Read the answers to our most frequently asked questions about teeth whitening at Dr. Naji Louis Family Dentistry.
-
How long do the effects of teeth whitening last?
As whitening is not permanent, various factors can affect how long it lasts. If you drink coffee or wine, eat foods with staining ingredients such as turmeric, or smoke, your teeth may become discoloured more quickly. If you maintain a healthy oral hygiene routine, you may just desire a touch-up after one year or so.
-
Does insurance cover the cost of teeth whitening?
Dental insurance does not typically cover the cost of teeth whitening.
-
Does teeth whitening make teeth more sensitive?
One short-term side effect of teeth whitening may be sensitivity. Fortunately, this usually fades away within a few days following a whitening session. To minimize any discomfort, we recommend that you use an anti-sensitivity toothpaste before treatment and for at least two weeks afterward.
-
Do teeth whitening products work on all stains?
Typically, brown and yellow-coloured stains respond best to teeth whitening treatments.
However, some stains do not respond to whitening treatments at all.
If having a whiter smile is important to you, but your teeth have stains that aren't responding to whitening, your dentist may recommend other treatments, such as dental crowns, to improve the colour of your teeth.
-
Does teeth whitening work on dental restorations?
Unfortunately, teeth whitening does not work on dental restorations; it only works on natural teeth. If dental restorations, such as crowns, are part of your treatment plan, they should happen after your natural teeth have been whitened.
-
Will teeth whitening damage my tooth enamel?
When used under the supervision of a qualified dentist, teeth whitening is very unlikely to damage your enamel. Always consult with your dentist to ensure you are using any teeth whitening products safely.
